We are Genia Johnson Dance Company, locally recognized as the PREMIERE dance studio of the tri-city area! We earned this reputation with over 24 years of exemplary quality dance instruction and exciting community performances! Located on the Boulevard in Colonial Heights, off Interstate 95, GJDC is convenient to Chesterfield, Chester, Prince George, Fort Lee, and the surrounding Tri-City areas.

We have been a part of the GJDC family for 4 years and I will forever be grateful that this dance school is part of our story. The atmosphere in the studio is positive and uplifting. My kids absolutely LOVE their teachers- we see them out and about in the community at various events and they always speak and get so excited to see my kids and vice versa. It really feels like this is more than just a job for them- they genuinely love what they do and it shows.
As far as Genia, she is there, she is present, she is in the classes, she knows the kids by name. She without a doubt found her calling; and built an amazing community for parents and kids with a love for dancing.
The classes are so affordable the costumes being budgeted in for the total price of the class is phenomenal! The music and the costumes are age-appropriate. I have never felt pressured to go above and beyond with make-up during the recital for my little ones. And they still look like themselves on stage and it makes my momma heart so happy that they don't have to be more than themselves to feel beautiful.
This studio is a gem in the community and we are so happy to be a part of it.

Genia Johnson Dance Company has been a second home for me & my family since the beginning. The atmosphere is so positive and supportive for both of my girls. Both my girls started here at the age of 2, and have developed such a sense of confidence over time that I truly believe came from GJDC. The staff here are such amazing role models. They are not just teachers, but also family and friends to us. Both my girls know they can go to anyone at GJDC to talk about anything and they will be there to support them and lift them up. I cannot imagine not having GJDC in my girls lives on a daily basis. We have known since day 1 that this is where they needed to be.

After dancing for Genia myself, it was a no brainer on where to go when it came time to sign my daughter up at age 2. Now, here we are, just finishing up our 8th year, and her 2nd year on the company team. GJDC is not just a dance studio. They are a family. All of the teachers have a beautiful way of making every single student that comes through the door feel special, comfortable, and LOVED. They teach so much more than just technique. If you choose this studio, you will not only have the best with dancing, but your child will learn life skills and lessons that they will carry with them forever.

I cannot say enough good things about Genia and the staff at GJDC. My sweet Aurora is on the autism spectrum, and has loved to dance almost since she could walk. We were apprehensive about putting her in classes because we weren’t sure how she would handle being in a formal dance setting. From our very first class with Ms. Genia, all of that fear was gone! We knew right away that we had found our dance home. We are now in our fourth year of dance at GJDC and the positive effect Ms Genia and Ms Meredith have had on Aurora cannot begin to be measured. We are forever grateful for Genia and her staff for encouraging our little girl and sharing their love of dance with her!

Both of my daughters have absolutely loved dancing at Genia Johnson Dance Company since my youngest daughter was 1 year old, and we have never felt like anything less than a family member! They have really loved their experience with dance, have made so many new friends and they absolutely adore their teachers! The choreography and dance techniques are amazing, the song choices at the recital are current top hits, as well as timeless classics, and we just have a blast! I could not recommend Genia Johnson Dance Company more if I was Genia herself! I searched for our “Dance Home“ long and hard because I know what a Dance teacher looks like through a child’s eyes. It’s not just a talented person in front of the class. My daughter would be looking up to that role model instructing her. Genia was THE perfect person! She’s genuine, honest, FUN and an extremely talented Dancer! I was nervous our 2nd year when my daughter would move up to have a different teacher but we were BLESSED with Meredith! The LOVE the teachers have for our babies radiates from them! The moment we walked in we knew we were HOME! We are starting our 3rd year here @GJDC with a lifetime to go 💜 I can not THANK Genia and her staff enough for LOVING my girl so much!

Genia Johnson Dance Company is truly a family for the girls and parents. Words cannot even express the love, patience and dedication that is poured into this studio. I have had 2 daughters dance there. Even though my oldest was just a 1 year thing to try something new, she had only great things to express about the studio and is always open to trying it again in the future! My youngest has been there since she was shy of 3 years old. We dipped in gradually, she adjusted so quickly, even with new ones afraid around her. The teacher’s comforted them while giving them time to adjust without thinking it’s not a good fit! Angelina then did another year and decided she wanted to try out for the competition team, and made it!!! BOTH of our love for dance blossomed tremendously this past year within her element and the community. Genia, all of the teachers, dance Moms AND Dads, even other dancers had arms and ears wide open for direction and all of the new competition dance Mom questions! Lol! Even though we are trying gymnastics this year, they left the door wide open and no bridges burnt to come back! When we do dance again, there will be absolutely no hesitations where we will go! We love you Genia and your crew! Thank you for being the most down to earth studio!
